Finding the best price for installing tile?

Question:Can someone recommend how to get the best price for installing tile? Should I go with a home improvement store (Lowes or Home Depot), a flooring company (Carpet 1 or Empire), or any other ideas?
Lowes charges $6.50 per square foot for installation, is this normal pricing?
We are moving into a house next month, and would like to have ceramic tile installed in the bathroom and possibly kitchen. Right now there is vinyl in those rooms.

Answers:
I wouldn't let Loews do it. Find a independent tilesetter and pay him a fair price. Discuss the details of the job and have a firm understanding on who supplies what.

You could try here [a tilesetter's forum] and see if there is a local guy for you:

That sounds very high to me, my local home depot would charge approx that, but including the tile.
This is probably a regional answer, higher in some areas-lower in others. Some contractors will do it for $2/square foot. You supply the material.
