Little Girls Room Ideas?

Question:My daughter is 1 years old and I want to get some visual ideas to decorate her room. I absolutely hate the color pink for her room and all I can seem to find online are pictures of fruffy pink rooms...ugh. Can any of you ladies or guys point me in the right direction for some inspiration for more modern (not contemporary) but more up to date room ideas for a little girl. I want something she can grow into.

you can spray paint hot chicks on the walls orrrr you can paint it black lol
i like white~ you can do a lot w/ it~ but white and a turquoiuse blue color scheme would b pretty~
I don't see why you dislike pink so much; its an adorable color; especially for a BABY GIRL!

But anyways, I suggest maybe getting some blue walpaper? With clouds or flowers, you know. :)

- Good luck
check out a site.www.poshtots.com,
their stuff is really high end BUT it may spark some ideas for what you can do. And if you can afford their stuff cool...but there are always reasonable alternatives in stores. They have pink stuff too but look in the designer rooms section and there are other really nice designs. if the whole site just makes you sick then...find a really cool, really nice piece of furntiure that you have or want and get color chips from your local paint store and try to find the complimentary colors for it. obviously staying away from pinks- but consider soft blues, lavenders, baby greens...top off with art that borders on the stimulating but wont take over the room. Or you can go with off ideas like baby bugs painted on the walls (look to the internet for images), puzzles, baby animals.stuff like that. good luck.
There are lots of cute themes you could go with-

You could do a garden theme and then you would not have to use pink. You can find lots of floral patterns or use a solid comforter. Use a piece of picket fence along the wall, and paint very simple butterflies or bumblebees.

Or you could do what I did. I used an under the sea theme with my daughter's room. I painted the walls blue, sponged white over top to simulate bubbles. I found some stick on fish, and bought cute pillows shaped like fish & starfish etc. I had so many compliments on her room. When she grew older and wanted a more grown-up room the night before her 7th birthday, I took out all the fish, sponged additional colors on the still good paint, added bright trim, lots of faux fur & a funky canopy, a lava lamp and a daisy hamper & accessories and she loved it!

I love themes, and it is really fun to collect things for them!
Do you all ready have the furniture that you will be using? If not, I think the new black furniture for little girls rooms is adorable, especially when you match it up with a lighter color, like lavender, yellow, light lime green. My daughter is almost one and her room is lavender (walls) with touches of pink and lime green in the accessories. I feel the same way about pink. I really don't like little girl rooms that look like someone threw up Pepto Bismol all over the place!
Dora the Explorer?
Use a wildlife theme or farm animals...kids usually enjoy animals for a long time.
I have found that little girls that age love the canopy beds or the netting that hangs down above the headboard and drapes down. Start with a main piece of furniture instead of overwhelming yourself with color. You can also think of her favorite things such as stuffed animals or a movie and play accessories off of that. Pink is a little girl color but you can go wild with anything you want. Trust me, you will grow weary of it before she will! :)
mmmmmmm i am also against the collor pink for girls and blue for boys so i started to think what would i do ..
now you say you want her to grow into it so what about this...
theme collors white & lavender make all walls white maybe use sparkle paint (very easy to make yourself! use a big bucket of childs glue (the one that dries up transparant) and toss in alot of sparkles! mix for a long time then ad on the wall with a roler... it looks awfull at first but when dry. perfect! just make shure you dont put on a very thick layer this sometimes looks nasty!) then i was thinking pillows and drapes! make a little "chill" corner with white and lavender drapes (see trough curtains) & pillows! keep everything simple so over the years things can change!
as for a girl i like sparkles and romance

if this isnt a good idea then maybe another theme type room something she likes like animals, fish (make her room look like a big fishtank) , a forest? (you can get someone handy to build you a treehousebed!)
be creative kids love themed rooms! too bad many people end up with pink and fluffy without asking the child what they really want
I used primary colors for my daughter's room, and I found a border that had crayons & coloring books on it - I loved the way it turned out. I painted one wall red, one in chalkboard paint, and the remaining white. The border was very colorful. I used white curtains - it was very crisp & happy.

We changed it when she was 11/12, and she wanted turqupise - it was her favorite color. She just turned 17, and she & her girlfriends painted it last year.

Have fun! Good luck.
purples, lavender, hot orange,
For my daughter, I made a shelf just about 1 foot from the ceiling all around the room. Scalloped the edges and painted enamel white. I use that for her keep sakes that you think she is too young to play with yet. I painted the room an orange pastel instead of pink for the walls and enamel white for the trim and doors. Her furniture was white and the pastel seems to match any color decoration. Got a net hanger for all the stuff animals.
Here are some sites that I have used. I have 4 girls and not a princess or a barbie lover in the bunch. These are some sites I've found some fun ideas at.

The family fun site you need to do a little surfing they have ideas in a bunch of different areas. The discovery site is for Trading space boys vs. girls. The HGTV sites are for divine design, Debbie Travis Painted house and Decorating Cents. All of them have ideas that are low cost but real fun.
I recently attended a baby shower where the mother feels the same about pink...ugh! Her color theme is sage and lavender. Those colors are reaally adorable together. We found alot of pieces at toys r us. Best of luck!
