Composite Decking?
Question:Is it a must to use stainless screws threw the whole deck?
can you use galvanized screws?, Or should I stay with stainless? thanks
Answers:
Stainless steel screws are a consideration if they will show at all, but I think they would be overkill here.
If the framework of your deck is treated, a ceramic coated screw is your best bet. A galvanized screw would be acceptable, but make sure they say they are for use with ACQ treated lumber. The new treating chemical is aggressively corrosive to steel, if the coating is not thick enough it will eventually fail.
You can use any fastener as long as its rated for outdoor use (won't rust). Stainless screws won't rust, but galvanized screws are "plated", meaning that if you pierce the surface coating the screw is not longer protected from the elements.
My advice is to go with stainless steel screws, so you won't have no worries.
