Why do we make our beds up if we are going to lay back in them?

Mainly it's for aesthetics. An unmade bed looks messy, and since most beds are the largest piece of furniture in a room, the whole room (even if the rest is okay) looks messy.
Plus, if you want to set something on the bed (like clothing, or something large), a made bed will give you a flat surface.
It's the same reason we wash our bodies when they are just going to get dirty again, and the same reason we put our clothes away if we are just going to wear them again and pur away a bicycle if we are just going to ride it tomorrow. Keeping order in your surroundings just makes life easier. As I tell my children, if you put things where they belong, you will be able to find them when you need them. If there is less clutter and mess around you, when you are in a pinch and hurrying to find something right away, you wont' have the stress of tearing through piles of bedding or dirty clothes or scattered belongings in your search. You'll just be able to find what you need when you need it :)
It looks better and it keeps the inside where you sleep clean.
I used to not make bed and asked my mum the same question which she in turn asked why do I eat if eventually those food passed out as faeces. Well, though it is not the same nature but it all boils down to the fact that we have to restore things we take to their original positions after using.
It is like switching off computer, lights, television, radio, when not in use. We do not leave them on even though will be using them after say 6 hours later. Tidying up toys after playing is the same theory.
I make my bed now and it is a welcome sight, seeing it in order and the feeling of getting ready for bed everytime I climb in makes the sleeping ritual more cosy.
some people do and some people don't. i used to leave messy thing it was more comfortable. and now that I'm older i make the bed because I'm teaching my children to do it and it has now became a habit
