How do you get rid of or cover stucco in your home?

Question:My friend just moved into a home where stucco is on the walls in the living and dining rooms. It IS HIDEOUS! Oh my. How on Earth can this stucco nightmare be replaced or covered? Is it possible?

Answers:
When you find out please let me know. We have the same problem. It really hurts when you bump it.

If it's knock down, not stucco, you can knock it off the walls fairly easily. It's just drywall mud and will probably scrape and crack off.

If it's true stucco, you can remove it (obviously) or you might try firring out the walls with a 2x4. Then cover the area with drywall. Be aware that you will have to adjust any moldings that are on that wall if you decide to furr it out.

I suppose you could have someone plaster over it with drywall mud. I am not sure what the cost would be, but I have to believe that someone with a great deal of skill would be needed if you want it done right.

God Bless
