I have a hand made rug,some colours are bright,is there any way I can make it look pale.?

Have you tried mildly bleaching it? Another option would be to hang it in direct, strong sunlight for a few days - it works on the things you don't want to fade so why not try it on those you do!
Try leaving it out in the sun, depending on what kind of materials it is made from, it may fade, just keep an eye on the weather and bring it in every night to keep it from getting damp and to see it out of the sun. Hope this works! =)
A dye won't work on a pattern, but leaving it out in the sun will definately fade the colours, but make sure it's flat, otherwise it might be patchy.

Best put it outside in the sunshine and it'll fade. If you live in UK I'm afraid you'll have to take it on holiday with you, it'll make a lovely beach mat
