How do I install pegboard?
Question:How do I install pegboard?
Answers:
For the pegboard to hold hooks, it needs a bit of free space behind.
The lumberyard (Home Depot or wherever) will have thin strips of wood - you want about a quarter to a half inch thick, long strips.
Screw the strips to the wall on the studs. Attach the pegboard with screws through the strips, and into the studs, too, for the most stability.
If you are installing in the garage, consider hanging the pegboard sideways instead of up-and-down. You won't hang anything near the floor or the ceiling, anyway, and you get more space.
Tips: hang a row of milk-crates along the bottom edge. These bins about waist-high are great for sorting items (car stuff, garden stuff, rolls of tape, gloves) into categories instead of trying to hang every item.
We also used the bins for sports equipment, outdoor toys (balls, squirtguns, etc.) and gloves, shoes, etc.
Actually, you frame the pegboard with the lumber. Then hang the peg board on hooks. Frame the pegboard with 2x4's. This will give you plenty of stability.
God Bless
