I have enough $ to either buy new kitchen appliances, install new kitchen flooring or, buy a couch?
Question:current appliances are really old, the floor is awful and we have no furniture in the front room, if you could only do one of these what would it be?
Answers:
where do you spend the most time? would you spend more time in the front room if you had furniture. Are your appliances not working right. (they can be old but work better than some of the new stuff out there) If the floor is really bad, I would do that first. If not I would buy the furniture.
Good Luck!
I would definately buy a couch. You can work on the others later.
kitchen appliances and a free couch off of freecycle.org
WELL UNLESS U LIKE SITTING ON THE AWFUL FLOOR I WOULD GET A COUCH.MAKES SINCE REALLY
Fix the floors and get a futon for now.
I would go with new appliances
Appliances can be given in the form of gifts (obviously not the large ones--it it were a fridge..you are going to NEED one. ) First to Second.
Flooring makes a place look nicer, even if there isn't any furniture, but you can cover a floor with a rug. Second to Third.
Furniture is last, but I might get a rug and buy something to sit on.
Well, I think I would check out some good used appliances, some good gently used furniture, and hope I could get by with some self-stick tiles and do my kitchen floor. That way I could have all my bases covered until I could safely do one project at a time with some quality things. But thats me, because I am very impatient.
If you bought furniture would you use it on a daily basis or is it in a room that is not too important. Do you cook and use your appliances alot? I would skip the floor unless it is a hazard.
I worked as an installation coordinator for a few years for a large home improvement store. From personal experience, always upgrade your flooring whenever you can. You may encounter height issues if you install appliances first if they are under a counter. Also, flooring will increase the value of the home more than appliances. I would go with a natural stone tile, travertine or slate are the nicest. If those are too expensive, go to a porcelain that has a natural stone look. These are cheaper and will require less upkeep. If you want to go with a laminate (Pergo), I would try the Dupont brand since they have the best warranty and what I would deem the nicest looking product. Avoid wood because of moisture issues in the kitchen, especially with older appliances. And for the love of God, do not put vinyl (linoleum) down. It adds no value and is a hassle. You can install laminate flooring for a small amount more than vinyl, so upgrade.
Buy appliances, beg the goodsalvationcharitywillarmy for everything else if your that poor.
Sit on piles/bundles of cardboard, Actually you could make furniture from cardboard. I saw this once. Pretty cool. Let's see what I can find.
Yeah, Yeah, That's The Ticket. Yeah. Now, If you can get your hands on a dead horse!
As a matter of fact, Commercial cardboard, called dunnage among freight haulers, is really quite sturdy.
God Bless
If the Front Room is only for sitting in or for show it goes in last place. If it is the main room for living in (Watching TV, Getting Together, etc.) then I have to say. I need somewhere to sit and/or relax. So then it would go second.
I would buy new appliances before the floor. They could go at anytime if the are in bad shape and then you would have to buy it and you may not have the money. The floor isn't going anywhere and would go after the couch.
