Why do vinyl fences squeak?
Question:My friend's apartment have a vinyl fence and it squeaks when you close the door or the wind blows. My parents want a low maintenance, long lasting privacy fence that won't cost a fortune, but if it squeaks they don't want it. Could anyone help me out? Why does the fence squeak and what could we do about it. Does your vinyl fence squeak and why not?

It`s just the nature of vinyls. Try this experiment. Run you finger done a piece of vinyl very quickly. Gets pretty warm. Lots of resistance. Put two pieces together and the resistance is increased. Hence any movement between the two creates a "squeak"
If lube is going to be used, I would suggest a silicone spray. It won`t stain.

Two pieces of vinyl are rubbing together. When the stress between the two pieces exceeds the amount of friction, they release. The release causes the squeak. Oil the fence and the squeak will stop. Be careful. Most oil will stain plastic.
