Painted Brickwork?
Question:Has anyone ever had to remove paint from brickwork. If so what product did you use, was it time consuming/expensive etc..or did you pay someone to do it. This would be for the whole house that had been painted.
Answers:
Best thing to do, is to power wash it first, then sand blast it.
Power wash it to get all the loose paint off, (use a rotating ceramic head to really take the paint off).
Now, get a sand blaster and use "black cat" beads to really get the rest of the paint off...
Also, buy lots of replacement "shields" for your visor, as the sand blasts them too, in the "back blast". Wear a hood and respirator.
Its going to take a good long while, and if you have an "old house" you may have to get a lead abatement team in there, (depending on your local EPA regulations), and put drop cloths down to catch all the paint and its going to be a mess once the people from the EPA gets involved!
I wish you well...

i didn't use any product i just sand it a little bit with no 4 sand paper and painted over it!
The only way to properly remove paint from brickwork is to sandblast it off... sorry... there really is no other competent way that will give you good results. Sandblasting is expensive..mucho!
I had paint removed from brickwork inside my cottage when I bought/renovated it, also from woodwork/beams, by sandblasting. It is the only way to do it. Mighty MIGHTY messy! :-) but worth it, cost £300, 9 years ago. Point to bear in mind is that my cottage is 150+ years old so bricks are not modern facing bricks which are not ideally suited to sand/bead blasting as the facing is likely going to be removed too, if not all over, at least, in places.
