Question:i have a really big problem. my bedroom furniture was picked out when i was like nine and since then i havent had a change of furniture. i really want my room to be bold and modern and maybe a little bohemian but my furniture is beige and cottage themed. is there a way to update it without changing the furniture completely? i have very little money.

go to tjmaxx or a fabric store for accents.you also can paint the walls to bring the look that you are going for. great finds at those shops.
First, ask your parents (or whoever you live with) if you can modify your furniture. If they say it's ok, go to the craft store and find some fake rhinestone jewels in bold colors like turqoise, ruby, etc. Hot-glue them in a pattern on your headboard or dresser drawers. You might want to give your furniture a fresh coat of paint in a cool color first. If you're not allowed to glue or paint the furniture, find some cool silky fabric and drape it over the furniture. Also, if your bedding is bland you could easily spice up the room with a new comforter or throw blanket. To tie everything in, you could buy a small rug in coordinating colors to throw on the floor by your bed. Hope this helps- if you need any more ideas (or different ones if you don't like these) feel free to email me! :)
Try getting some spray paint, there are tons of pretty colors that you could choose from. Make sure the paint is matched to the surface you wish to paint..so, get spray paint for metal if you're going to spray paint some metal, wood for wood, et cetera.

Also, Wal*Mart has some really cheap fabrics that are usually always on sale.

You can buy some that cordinate with the colors you want in your room and use them for curtains, or wrap them around your bed posts.

You can also buy a hula-hoop, which is also very cheap, buy some of the fabric, and secure the hula hoop over your bed, after cuting a slice through it and puting the fabric around it.
This will make a pretty canopy!

There are tons of sites on the internet for cheap and trendy ways to update your room and style.
This can be an easy fix. Get some furniture grade 3/4 in plywood. Cut a shape you like 2 times (1 for headboard and one for foot) then paint, or upholster them and put the foot board on outside of existing one and head board on inside of existing one. Then decorate the rest of the room to fit. PS if you are doing an easy shape like a square you can cut four and make a box to go over the existing one totally hiding it.
