Putting up a fence?
Question:My husband and I are going to put up 100 feet of fence. I like the red dog ear fencing at lowes that is 6 foot tall. It looks nice and is pressure treated. It ranges about 47 dollars for 6 feet. Is there anywhere that is cheaper for fencing? I looked at Home Depot and they were more expensive, and I cannot think of anywhere else to look.
Also-- since it pressure treated, do we need to do anything else to it? Paint, waterseal?

I needed to have a bit of fence put up, about 22 feet, including a gate. I got an estimate from a fencing company for over $700. I did it myself over several weekends (only worked a little at a time, was slower because I had no help) and it cost me closer to $200. However, I realized if I was doing a large project, it might make more sense to have a professional install it. In my case, it was about the same cost using premade panels vs buying pickets and crossbraces and doing it myself. I preferred making it myself because I could use custom spacing and know the quality of the work. I've seen too many premade panels put together with staple guns, using bad quality wood, and warping after only a few years. So do a little more shopping and see what it would cost to buy the pickets themselves, all the posts, and the crossbraces, and it might end up being cheaper (but not quicker) to do it from scratch.
I used pressure treated pine because it was much more cost-effective than cedar and I was trying to match existing fencing. I watersealed it with a tinted sealer (honey colored) and it looks great. I am not sure why (another poster mentioned) you'd want to wait a year before sealing it? I live in South Dakota and we have some extreme weather here. Everyone I asked recommended sealing ASAP. In fact, I sealed my individual pieces of wood BEFORE installing them, so I could get every crack and crevice I wouldn't necessarily be able to reach once the fence was up.
Good luck!
you should waterproof pressure treated, but not the first year
maybe Ebay but if you pay for shipping it would set you back.
no you dont have too do any treatment to it just the way it comes all though cedar is a very good fence also you can get cedar pickets for .99 cants each for 1 by 4's or 1.99 for 1 by 6's pickets and you dont have to do anything to it either but it seams to last longer than treated pickets Rick from Rick's paint & remodeling in buisness now for 10 yrs
I would also look at Lowe's. They are always cheaper on just about everything. I would recommend a stain. It will help keep the fence from holding water and it will stay nicer. We just put up a new fence and stained it because the old fence got so water logged from a heavy rain it snapped all the posts and fell down. We've learned our lesson.
