Room decorating for a teenage girl?

Question:Hi,
I want to re-do my room, but I cant spend too much $.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how I get started, and places where I can buy inexpensive room decor, or any cool Ideas about what to do with the room.
Here are some things about me so maybe they can help give u ideas:
-I am 14 years old
-I ride horses (western) and im a cowgirl
-my room is big, it used to be an attic, but it was refurbished, so it is the length of my house.
-my walls are slanted on either side.
-my fav. colors are turquoise(teal), light blue, pink and purple.

I need some help about where to start, unique ideas, etc.
Thanks!

Answers:
Since your room is the whole length of your house, which sounds like its pretty big (long anyway) you could break it up into different areas. Sleeping, desk/homework/computer, hanging out, maybe a storage type area or whatever else you might like to do in your room.

An idea I thought of when I read through your question was to paint each wall a different color. The two fullest walls, one could be the light blue for your sleeping area, the opposite wall could be the teal (as an example), then the two walls where the ceiling/wall slants, one side could be pink and the other purple.

You could visit the wall words website and get words done that indicate the areas i.e. "sleeping", "studying", etc. It shouldn't be very expensive, and they are transfers, so if you change your room they will come off easily.

Bean bag chairs in the colors you mentioned for your hanging out area will give you and your friends a place to sit and tie in all the colors in the room.

For your love of horse, you could look on ebay for some horse related items, maybe a horse shoe to hang over your door for good luck.

Have fun!

Using these colors paint your room the light blue (it will give it
very open feeling..like the outdoors :o).and then the comforter in the purple with the pillows as accents on the bed in the blue...
if you have room for a wall shelf, you can display any trophies or other things related to the horses you ride - pictures, trophies etc.
IKEA has really unique furniture for very reasonable prices, i would suggest shopping there. since you're a cowgirl, i would suggest mixing your favorites such as light blue and turquoise with a tan and brown as your main colors throughout the room. then use pink and purple as your accents for pillows, mirrors, and maybe a chair or two, hope i could help!
HGTV.com has some really great ideas for decorating all kinds of rooms.
Just a few ideas:
1) If you're handy with a hammer and boards, make a couple of saddle stands and drape with inexpensive striped southwest blankets which incorporate your favorite colors of teal and pink.
2) If you have an old saddle, put it in your room--makes for a great topic of discussion.
3) Group a pair of colored boots, hat and lasso on a shelf.
4) Outline basic picture frames with barbed wire.
5) Use horseshoes as curtain tiebacks.
6) Drape mosquito netting from the ceiling and pull to each side of your bed also with horseshoes.
7) Old fashioned looking quilts would work well on your bed.
I'm so excited for you; there is so much you can do with your theme.
Try to make some Indian sun catchers of yourself. It shows your western style, also the beads can be made of your favorite colors, especially turquoise.
Also, if you have an old mirror, put some stone-based colors on the frame, also in turquoise and pink maybe in zick-zack motive, that's nice for a girl and you still keep the western decor.
your room sounds EXACTLY like mine. I just painted it white, and it looks incredibly large. I found some retro furniture at the thrift store. It was very cheap. I also found some old records with really cool covers. I hung them on a wall above a large window I have. Do you have a walk in closet? if so, I suggest putting a narrow desk in there.
