Hardwood flooring labor and material?
Question:Just want to know a rough estimate on replacing carpet with hardwood flooring. The room size is 14x14.
Answers:
Your best bet would be to go to a flooring store OR Lowe's or Home Depot and talk to a hardwood flooring specialist. What they're going to ask you is if you want REAL hardwood, as opposed to laminate. THEN you must decide whether or not you want pre-finished or sand and finish hardwood flooring. In new construction sand and finish is probably more widely used but in existing homes, the pre-finished is used a lot because of the dust factor and the polyurethane fumes, not to mention the disruption of the lack of use of the room while the sand and finish floor is being done. Also, there is engineered flooring which is prefinished hardwood flooring that has a finish that is typically "guaranteed" for 20-25 years. To me, engineered flooring looks just like the pre-finished flooring, which it IS but it costs more but comes with a wear guarantee. Bottom line, you should really get some estimates and be SURE to look at the work done by the PERSON who will be doing your flooring. If you go with a company instead of an individual, you'll more than likely have recourse should something go wrong BUT when you go through a flooring company that sub-contracts their work, you really have to be careful. You do want to see the work that the person who is going to do your floor has done and talk to his customers FIRST. A guarantee on the workmanship is great BUT why risk having problems with your flooring, even if it IS guaranteed...why go through the hassle of having to have it redone? Be sure you see the work and I'd be very vigilant and PRESENT during the entire process if possible. GOOD LUCK!
we need more info. There are just too many options and variables to answer this question. Where might you live?
it'll be much easier for you to go to a local hardware or flooring store and have them give you an estimate that way you can pick and choose the type of wood and finish you like.
