Why not think of 'out of the box' ideas? Just break all known rules, conventions and practices of interior designing. Redifine everything yourself according to your likings!

For example:

1. Highlight the floor - make all your general lighting from the floor itself , i.e., parts of the floor are done in glass with lighting systems below. You can think of placing your hi-fi speakers in the floor also. Let your feet feel the vibration as you hear the music!

2. Make non-walls! Usually people colour their walls and make them as the most prominent features in the room. You make the walls neutral - they are only blank canvas for your moods. So paint then white and instal LED light panels to give them colour wash. Use combinations of colour to create varying moods in varying colour shades. Use timer and combinations to create three to six combinations per day or week.

3. Don't use fixed heavy furniture. Use soft bed mattresses, cushions, pillows etc. that can be moved around. Have them all white (why white see pt. 5 below).

4.. Make your roof vanish! Colour it dark - say navy blue. Make a (transparent plastic) bead curtain hanging from roof to floor. Mount it on a channel with rollers hanging from the ceiling. The channel can be slightly curved and fixed accross the entire length of the room so the curtain can be moved around the room. Use spot lights hanging from the roof to add colour. The beads will catch the light and the curtain will come 'alive'. Use different colours at different times to give the curtain a shifting colour design. Move the curtain around to act as a back-drop of any activity area. For example, place it behind the bed mattress to highlight sleeping area or accross a couple of bean bags to highlight sitting area etc. etc.
5. Use coloured spot lights hanging from ceiling to give colour to your furniture pieces - like coloured polka dots on your bed, i.e., the white mattress through spot lights in the roof!

Go ahead, do some thing very very different - there's no rules or conventions. If there are any, just break them!

Best.

I'm 13 too! :) Well my room is painted lime green (my fave color) and i have one of those lights with a bunch of heads, i have a lantern hanging, posters of my fav movies/athletes/etc, a funky lamp 2 go on my side table, a cute bedspread from PB teen, and a green lava lamp! i hav a lot more stuff but i just can't think of it at the moment!
yea definitely try bright colors go for something fun but something that u can grow with. ur about to start high school so u want something that will be versitile. try adding some bright paint to the walls but play it down with white furniture. maybe a simple desk for homework or a computer. u should also try watching some home makover shows, they can be really helpful. especially trading spaces. i hope this helps out.
im 14 and my room is full of sky blue cuz i like it i think the best color for you is orange and yellow stripes at the wall and more yellow blbs lights and orange rugs and yellow pillow and orange blanket!!! oh i forgot and white sofa!
Since you are teenager, I am sure you will love to have a bright colour that attracts more light and make you feel warm. But instead of colour you can also try Wallpapers that are available these days with the required design, pictures, scenes etc. which will be cheaper than colour and you can change it after 3-5 years if you so desire. Include flower pots in your windows (hanging or based) to add the greenery and colour in your room. Get your wardrob redone. Bombay Dyeing has the best bed spreads this season. Try those as it is colourful and pleasant to lie down on. Use Designer Pillows with shapes of Lips, Teddy Bear, Flowers etc. to add more glitter. Use an expensive designed carpet with more red colour to keep you lively all the time. Put colourful curtains especially crimson which gives peace of mind and helps in concentration. Have a big fancy shaped (Apple) Mirror fixed on the Wall where you can see your entire self with a small flash light on the top. Use artistic chairs made of marble if it suits your purse.

Have fun changing and change is permanent. Enjoy
