Would you buy a used mattress and box spring that looked visibly clean and in good condition?
Question:Or would you feel funny about doing so for certain reasons?
Answers:
That is one thing I will definitely buy new. People do all kinds of things on their mattress that we can't possibly know unless we are in bed with them. Ick! All kinds of nasty images would run through my head at the thought! And I've seen news reports (like 48 hours or Dateline or 60 minutes or something) where people who had taken in used mattresses had developed various illnesses. I'm definitely leery of sleeping in hotel beds, especially of the 'cheaper' establishments and won't touch the comforters. I think I watch too many news programs.
I would not, its just gross.
not if it's been slept on. if it has, i wouldn't buy it cuz i don't want to be breathin in someone else's dead skin flakes and stuff
i wouldn't
just cause beds r a pretty personal space
the preivous owner may have done things in the bed u would't feel good about lying in it
I would if I knew the people very well, like all my life and what kind of people they are.
Only if I could not afford a new one.
Nope... a bed is a very private possession and I need to know that my bed is my bed and has never been anyone elses.
Now, I have the financial means to have this opinion / desire / want. If the finances are a significant issue, then maybe I would have to reconsider this stance.
Also, I would (if I were you) ensure that the bed is of the correct type for your back etc. I have back issues from playing sports and made sure, that when I bought a new bed last year, that I bought a bed that would help and not hurt my back! A bed can cost many thousands of dollars... but having one that causes back pain is an investment that one will surely be unhappy about seeing as we average 8 hours a day lying on it!
Cheers.

the only way i buy used if i new the owner, or if the mattress were kept in plastic covers, generally used for allergies- those covers will help to prevent bed bugs, so if you do decide to buy, i would definately by the covers
Buy it but leave it out in the open for a few hours and spray it with lysol or fabreeze or put plastic govers over it they sell them for all sizes of beds cheaper than the matt. and boxsprings new
I only buy used. I would not buy from a private owner, though. I get mine at a reputable used furniture store, where they are, by state law, sterilized. I just bought a Sealy, full, pillow top set for $200.00
I'm not sure where you are from but in Iowa it is illegal to sell used mattress and box springs. I worked in a hotel that replaced all of the beds and they had to give them away. I have also seen at resale shops, etc. where they will sell the bed or just headboard and include the mattress for free as a way to get around it.
I do however agree with others who said its just gross.
