Answers:
They were originally called "Withdrawing Rooms" where you could meet and receive guests away from the more informal family rooms.
Drawing. Literally. Frequently the kids were educated here, back when home schooling the pre teen was all there was. Frequently the room that had the most natural light.

God Bless
Drawing rooms were often used to entertain guests with privacy from other members of the family (i.e. if a Suitor came to court your daughter).
Even today, many british houses have two "reception rooms" (we'd call them living rooms). I believe it goes back to the days when drawing rooms were used. Now most use one as a living room and the other as a family room or formal dining room. I've found a lack of formal dining rooms over there - they either have kitchen nooks, use a conservatory (glass addition to the house) or eat in the living room on TV trays, watching telly.
its also known as a living room or family room in which you can invite others such as friends and family to come and company one another instead of having to show everyone your bedroom
