What can I do to decorate my dorm room cheaply? What things should I add? Is it possible if I'm on a budget?

Question:My dorm room is sooo aesthetically-challenged ! All furniture and square corners !

Answers:
If you are allowed to paint, that is a cheap and easy way to brighten things.
Otherwise, change your bedding to something maybe more to your liking - different colour and crisp clean lines - maybe tan and cream with brown accents. Add a plant and if the desk is your own, paint it to match your new look. Add some pictures to your walls. Maybe ones you've taken yourself on trips...will remind you of great times.
Remember to keep the colour down to something not too bright and overstimulating (like red or bright orange). You need something calm to sleep in and something calming to help you with your homework which is neverending (been there.done that). If you can, go to garage and lawn sales and you may find something that would be "that perfect touch".

I would think of what you absolutely need over decorations. i know I am a college student too. But you can get a futon or chair (planet) get like xmas lights (rope lights are cooler) and like rugs. but if you have a room mate you must check with them first. you can't bring all this stuff and they have the same amount. but you can get matching covers to any futon/chair/bed and then you can change your curains. put up posters. do what you want/need/ or think you like.

Just remember do what you want... because your the one who has to live in there.

good luck
alright, go to walmart first off, Start off in the sporting goods department, get a couple of those round camping chairs. Then go to where they keep all of the throw pillows, Grab a couple of brightly colored ones, get a bright bed spread, Some colorful throw rugs, get yourself some posters, and frame them (walmart sells the frames for little of nothing now) and wala...you can do it all for under 150 dollars.

First you can pick a theme. Something that speaks about you. For example, if you like music, you could decoupage old sheet music on your furniture and frame some interesting sheet music covers. Hang old instruments, if you can find them. Pick up the colors of the sheet music you hang for curtains and pillows.

This would work for many themes. If you like botony, decorate with botanicals, you get the picture.

If money is an issue, look at thrift shops and flea markets. You will have fun and find bargains.
Go to dollar tree...get some pictures or frames for pictures you already have...they also sell a lot of other cute stuff for a dollar...
This is easy. Framed art or graphics. NO POSTERS! Try touches that say room not dorm room. Large objects will be overwhelming while small objects may feel out of place so try to add to proportion to the room it'self. It is a good idea if your roomate (if you have one) will allow a whole room look as one sided decorating looks out of place as well. Small rooms need light colors. Dark colors will make the room look small. Also if you can have closing storage for items like TV's, computers and stereos.

Add the toucjes of home like toss pillows and your favorite nik nacks.
