I have put new maple architraves around windows and skirtings..if i just stain them can they look modern?or?

Question:should i paint them .im not going for a ultra modern look.but something that wont age too quickly

Yes, paint them. If you can spray them with lacquer, maybe a semi gloss finish, to cover some bumps on the wood, it will look better, and won't age that quickly
