I need to know how to...?
Question:ok i am painting stripes on the bottom half of my room and i was wondering how to make precise lines inbetween. any ideas??
Answers:
TAPING IT OFF IT THE BEST WAY to get straight lines, and or chalk lining it
Use a level to draw light lines on the wall just inside the area you want to paint. Put blue painter's tape next to the line, but not on it. Best to erase the line before painting just to make sure it doesn't come through, but it shouldn't with a quality paint. You may need to practice a bit to learn how to keep the tape straight along the line.
Make sure you press down the edges of the tape well, otherwise some of the paint may work under it and give you a jagged line. Remove the tape as soon as the paint is dry to the touch.
Although tedious, you can paint the base color or lighter color first and wait for it to completely dry. 3M makes a product called "blue painter's tape" which you can get at 99% of all hardware and home improvement centers nationwide (Probably Canada too) that will not damage painted surfaces. Measure the space at the top and bottom of each line you intend to paint at even intervals and "mask" each strip that you can run your roller or brush freely over the exposed surface. Repeat around the room. Wait for all of these surfaces to completely dry also and remove the tape. Hope this helps and good luck.
Measure and evenly space the tapes. Taping would give a neat look after painting.
