Im going to hang roman blinds - do they go inside or outside the window frame?

Question:I really dont know what im doing and I can see myself learning the hard way by wasting my money on blinds when I should really get a professional to fit them.
But if I did that, then I would never, never learn.
My question is.. Do I buy blinds to fit inside the frame or outside and, do they hang under the frame aswell?
Thank you!!

I have roman shades throughout my home, some alone, some as an undertreatment. It really depends on what your window will allow. Check out the Smith and Noble website, they give you installation and measuring information, up to 10 free swatches, and some pictures of how all their window treatments look.

If you have enough room within the window (inside mount), I would go with the inside mount. It does alleviate those gaps of light on the sides. Some windows that are metal or vinyl, you would have to do an outside mount, but if you are worried about light gaps, you could also put stationery drapery panels (or curtains) as an overtreatment.

As far as length, they usually come to the sill.

I have seen them hung both ways. I prefer to hang them on the inside of the frame.

If you have a deep set window and like to sit things on the window ledge then hang them on the outside.
Hanging them on the outside eliminates all extra light/peeping toms! Fitting them into the frame is still more hard work and you have to be exact for them to look good- Hanging them on the outside gives you some room to play with and covers the lot!! Good luck!
I am with the inside option
Roman blinds are fitted usually on the outside of the frame. Reason? Blinds should fit close together, so as to keep out light. But there should be just enough room for blind to fold up. They are easier to hang on the outside of frame. What you need to remember.Does the blind fit more easier on the inside or outside.? Hold them up and try side by side. You also need to fit a Cleat, to hold the blind strings when up. Is there room to fit one. Why don't you go into the Martha Stewart website and type in Roman Blinds. They do require special fitting, but once you know they are easy. We have them inon most of our windows. Good Luck!
