I painted my diningroom a cedar color and my livingroom a golden mustard..what do you think?

Question:the only thing seperating the two rooms are two large wooden "pillars", do the colors sound good together

Answers:
They do sound good together however there may not be enough contrast to compliment the two rooms. Would it be possible to paint the pillars in a contrasting color to help break up the two rooms?

makes me want to vomit
Yes, they sound great together. They probably have a sort of warm feel.

I think that you should add some gauzy burnt reddish sheer panel (single curtain)between the pillar and wall, sort of a gem tone...
They sound fine, but it is really according to your decorations and furniture. I am not a big fan of color. I like a lot of white with splashes of color because most of my friends have these big garrish rooms that are overdone. If it is done tastefully, those colors could be beautiful.
As long as you like your selection that is all that matters. However, colors this strong will in most cases grow old quickly, and usually requires repainting in a year or less. For some basic color planning visit here:

YUCK!
The colors are definitely good together... my advice however is to set harmony by interchanging colors in both rooms through accessories... I think you like warm colors and warm feelings...
