Question:Who or What would it be of?
Answers:
I would hang a picture of my husband and I when we first became a couple. I have such a picture of us having a picnic on the side of our "super beetle", me with long curly hair an he with the same. We were sexy, beautiful and deeply in love. Not that we aren't any more, but age takes its toll and 30 years have passed since that time, he has less hair and I have more weight, LOL. A photo is a beautiful reminder to me. Sometimes I stare at the picture and re-live those precious moments.

My family is so large, I'd never get everyone together to take one photo of all of us, so I'd hang a nice painting of a seascape, lighthouse on the shore and waves lapping up on the rocks. Reminds me of several places I've lived and water is one of the most calming things there is.

It would definitely be an original even if it was done by a neighbors six year old. The essence of art is in the uniqueness of the picture (or sculpture) and prints & reproductions send a second rate message to the soul.
Get several pictures (photos or art) you like, hang one, then change (rotate) each month and see who notices. And YOU won't get bored!

For me it's a piece of art with colors that will flatter the furnishings and other elements of the house, but most importantly it should reflect who I am. and in case many occupy the house it should be pleasing to all...!
I have family portrait of 5 generations in it..
