I purchased an antique cabinet. After getting it home I realized that it smells like mildew very badly.?

Question:Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell without destroying the wood?

Answers:
Wash it down with a bleach and water solution. Bucket of warm water, 1 cup of bleach, 1 drop of liquid soap. Wash to kill the mildew. Wipe dry with white towel. Move the cabinet out side in the sun to dry and let the fresh air move throw it.

rub it down with some baking soda. then go buy some orange cleaner and wipe the whole thing down. the smell will usually be absorbed by the orange cleaner.. plus orange cleaner is a great product for restroing moisture in old wood.
STUFF IT WITH BALLS OF MASHED NEWSPAPER , IT WILL ABSORB ALL THE ODOR.
Charcoal - someone else mentioned this too. I found the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT carbon odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Just put one or two in the cabinet. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Definitely worth trying
