Why and when did the habit many women have adapted of putting huge numbers of pillows on a bed after making it
Question:up? It seems to me that this happened all of a sudden. Surely that is not the case. How did women learn that it was "cool" to put all of those pillows on the bed? It is a real problem for me when I want to take a short nap in the afternoon. Not enough room to lay down. When will this useless habit "go away?"
Answers:
Though the pillow thing may seem annoying and tiresome, it could actually save your life. You see, you never know when a category five earthquake is going to hit (and don't lecture me about plate tectonics, earthquakes don't care about them). So you see, women are only looking out for your safety. If an earthquake were to hit, pillows would go flying everywhere and you would be magically cushioned from danger. You should take a nap on the couch and thank your savior for thinking of you when she puts those pillows on the bed. 0.o

or maybe, the person who is putting it on the bed is saving it for a pillow fight, when she gets angry..

It has been around a looooooooong time. The french woman's bedroom was known as a boudoir or pouting room. A private and luxurious place to get away, to cry, to think, to entertain with girlfriends, to enjoy sewing and embroidery. In addition to sleeping pillows, they would commonly embroider small square pillows for the bed known as breakfast pillows. Not only were they an attractive addition, they served as lap pillows when sitting up in bed and reading or eating. As for the big bed pillows, it started with one pillow per person, then it became decadent to have two pillows, the one on top being the fluffier one. Now they have body pillows to help pregnant, widowed or single people sleep better.
I myself have four pillows on my bed, two are my husbands and two are mine. I have no problem taking a nap with them on the bed as I sleep with them at night as well. I also have one decoratively embroidered breakfast pillow for decoration only, which can easily be set on a chest when I climb into bed.
