Actually dark colors make a 1/2 bath look more elegant.
Also, elaborate on the mirror, expensive towels and fixtures.
I't will seem more impressive due to it's size.
I painted my half bath a dark denim blue. It's awesome! Don't believe that dark colors create a "smallness", the room is small already, it lends a very dramatic, elegant look to the room. Ceiling too. You'll like it.
I think if you use a border, you may make it look smaller. Use neutral lighter colors to make a space look big. Assuming white is not your cup of tea as it is kinda "blah", try a light taupe and accent it with a fabulous single print of flowers or depending on the placement of the toilet, you could use a framed mirror behind the toilet, assuming it is directly across from the sinks mirror to make th space look bigger. Good Luck!
Paint it all one color. when it is very small, doing a lot makes it look smaller. You could do a wallpaper that looks like a faux finish. The best looking half bath I've ever seen had
a beautiful framed mirror over the sink, and an elegant light fixture. Keep accessories to a minimum--soap in a
classy dispenser and lovely guest towels.
Here is an excellent site with some wonderful options 4 U.
