Decorating lounge, want one coloured wall just so doesnt look so beige!?

Question:im decorating the lounge at the moment, it a new build property so the whole house is really natural and light beige, have just bought a new sofa which i really oversized and cushiony, have a black lcd tv and black and white vases, and a plain canvas with a stenciled pic of audry hepburn in it. room is quite modern but i was thinkin of painting one wall to break it up a bit, any ideas?

Answers:
I don't know what your flooring is or what colour the sofa is, so it is a little difficult to judge.

For a dramatic effect, I'd recommend a deep ruby red which can look fab with a black and white colour scheme and with beige creams and chocolate browns. A rich burnt orange would serve the same purpose. For a different look, try a special feature wall paint and go for a gold or silver metallic finish. It's not too in your face, but it's a great effect and makes a huge difference to a room. You can get these from Homebase and B&Q.

An alternative, if you're feeling trendy and can face the work, is to do one wall in a modern wallpaper. There are some fantastic choices out there, and this can add a wonderful contemporary edge to your room. Try the following sites for wallpaper ideas:

You could paint it a deep red or to make it even more modern paint it purple
I would go for chocolate brown. It goes with beige and black and is really the in colour at the moment. Failing that if you want something more promient then dark red looks good, but if the room is a bit smaller then bear in mind that this will close it in a bit.
Duck egg blue is very nice and unobtrusive with beige/brown.

Did you not think about getting patterened or textured wallpaper for the one different wall? There are some lovely prints out there, wallpaper is fully moved away from it's old fashioned image. Sounds like you could do with a bit of a design in there to break it up and put your stamp on it. Otherwise it sounds like generic decoration rented houses have.
You could do a red if you really want one of the walls to pop. In for fall this year is also eggplant purple, and the softer colors in dusty lavendar, light gray, (and others). What other accessories do you have in the room? Anything you really like with some color? What color is the sofa? Maybe you could take an accent color from there.
Chocolate brown would be your best bet. It is also really trendy at the moment
A shade of orange would look stunning, it adds warmth and also very trendy. I think red and chocolate is a bit too common so opt out of that choice. You might want to go olive green to awken and accentuate to your asseccories. Its sounds beautiful already I am sure you would make the right choice!!!
I really recommend dark brown, it looks great with beige walls. Try putting red cushions on settee to add contrast to room.
Either choose a colour which is the same colour band as the beige tone, or go to the other end of the spectrum and choose an opposite tone for contrast.
Alternatively select a wall paper for the accent wall and add some texture or pattern to the design.
chocolate brown looks nice or how about a pale pink!
dulux have a new range of paints, called 'feature walls'

i recently used their 'raspberry red' for my fireplace wall and it really gives the room a fantastic new feel.

i would suggest you go to your nearest b&q and pick up some tester pots of their feature wall, they have nice deep and seductive looking colours... you are bound to find the right one !!

good luck..
Take a digital photo of the room and play around with the colours on the Crown Paints website. It helped me solve a difficult colour choice decision in one of my rooms.

You didn't mention what color the couch is so I'll have to work with what you've given me...

So you're looking for modern but warm... Here are some colors you can consider:

Hot or Bubblegum pink
Burnt orange
Granny smith apple green
Fresh raspberry red
Deep olive green
Carribean ocean turquoise
Dark exspresso coffee brown

It all depends on what mood you want the room to portray.

Whatever color you decide to go with, keep in mind that you'll need to balance it since you are only planning on painting one wall. To balance the color in the room, add at least one more decorative object of the same color. Say you choose carribean turquoise blue... add a vase in amongst the black and white ones or cushions on the couch, or curtains, or a throw rug... it doesn't really matter what the item is, as long as it's the same color it will balance it all.

Sounds like a nice room... Oh... add a few silver (brushed, not chrome) accents. That will lighten it all up too.

Enjoy your space!
From what you've said Millie, I would consider adding maybe 3, large black and white framed pics to a wall, Elvis? monroe? Bacall? Bogart? Palance? and more, to choose from. (Audrey Hepburn black n white is excellent, luvvit :-) They look just great, and modern.
go for red it will look really nice
There are some beautiful papers that are very modern. I saw one the other day which was a black background with white flowers on similar to orchids. Your room would need to be quiet large to take the pattern but would look very effective. What ever colour you choose just coordinate with accessories ie cushions, rug, curtains etc...
Id go for black or red to go with all youve said...sounds really nice.
