How do I prep walls for painting?

Question:What supplies do I need to prep a wall for painting? What do I wash the walls with? Do I put spackle in a wall with wood paneling before painting?

Answers:
Use warm water with mild soap to clean the walls. You can use caulking instead of spackle it is easier to work with and yes you need to use it first in any of the cracks etc After you apply it make sure to smooth it over. Then you will need to use a primer or a product called KILZ. To block the wood stain color from bleeding through. You will also need some masking tape to tape off anything you don't want paint on. You will need brushes a roller and roller pan etc. Hope this helps. Good luck to ya!

hello -- First, scrape all loose paint, glue, dirt off (put sheet on floor first) sand rough edges to smooth surface and re-scrape the left on paint or varnish.
Secondly, wash *lightly* to get rid of the dust.

Then prep the surface with a adherence coat, then apply a coat of paint covering the wall.
