Bdrm is 8ft tall. Are there visual tricks to add height to the room (paint, trim, color)etc?
Question:bedroom is 15x17 in the basement and dark wood floors
Answers:
White ceiling...definitely light walls, too.
Paint a light color like cream. Best trick I've seen is to hang your curtains (if you have windows down there) above the window so it gives the illusion of height.
What about adding crown molding.
The brighter the color, the bigger the space seems. Try using pastel colors and tall skinny bookshelves.
Trying picking a light/bright colour for the entire room. Carry the wall colour up onto the ceiling. This tricks the eye because the colour just keeps going...moulding breaks the eyes path up. hang pictures half way up the wall...not 3/4. as far as lighting, don't hang anything that will come down extremely far, because this only emphasizes the fact that the ceilings are lower than you're looking for. i may suggest a light style that stays close to the ceiling (hugs the ceiling) or try pot lights. Good Luck
A good trick is to put up at least a 4" crown moulding around the room about 8" down from the ceiling. If you really want to add height place rope lighting in the opening on the top of he crown moulding and you would be surprised with the results. I have down this in my basement in Chicago after many open houses and complaints with the basement and received 10 offers when I had the next open house. Hope this helps.
