Do you have any tips or know of any pitfalls of sealing granite on your own? It seems very easy.?
Question:Is there any reason to have it done by a professional? I have in the past only because it was included in a package.
Answers:
Madhouse has got this one nailed.. be sure you apply it as described on the package and it's easiest working in fairly small sections.. sorta like waxing a car.
There is no reason in the world that you cannot seal your own countertops. If you can wipe down the counter after making breakfast, you can seal them.
Go to a stone dealer (not HD or Lowe's) and get the sealer. It's kind of pricey--but you don't need much. A quart should do it. It will be around $30-$50 for the good stuff. Read the directions before you buy. It shouldn't need any complicated application. Most are just wipe on, wipe off. The hardest part is clearing off the counter first!
You will know that your countertop needs sealing if water is leaving dark marks on it. After sealing, just maintain your countertop with soap and water.
