How can I make a valance from Placemats??

Question:Ok here's the deal.I couldn't find any material to make a simple valance for my breakfast nook windows...I had already covered the chairs months early so I wanted the same pattern on the valances..so I have enough to stretch the length of the two windows.but i need some creative ideas on how to put it together..without a LOT of sewing skills...any ideas, patterns, etc??

Answers:
You don't need advanced sewing skills.
All you need to know is how to baste.
Fold a few inches at the top, where you want the valance to hang from and baste it so that it holds it together and makes an opening. OR.you can just fold it and use iron on ribbon tape. Then you can run a narrow curtain rod through the opening and hang it.
You can also make loops out of fabric or ribbon and put the rod through them. All you have to do is some basic sewing or use iron on tape to hold them to the back.
Last you can buy metal or plastic rings and sew them to the top edge of the placemat, then run the rod through them.
You can also use large, cotton dishtowels or bandana's and just hang them over a decorative rod.
Hope this helps!

If you already have the placemats, cut a small hole on either side at the top of each placemat and slide a smaller tension rod thru the holes. The fabric from the placemat will cover the side facing the window. You will just need to make sure to place the holes so when you slide them together the rod on the front doesn't show. If you overlap them slightly you could use a dab of glue to keep them from coming apart. If you want something different you can always glue on buttons or beads. It just depends on your kitchen
They sell curtain clips. Just slide them on the rod and clip the place mats to them.
