Most people put their vanity mirror in their bathroom. This is because it is more of a place to get ready, kind of like a bathroom. Instead of doing your hair and putting on your make-up over a sink, it's right there for you. But it's usually not used as a piece of furniture. Yet, there are people who put it in there bathroom. Where ever you like it is where it should go.
YES! It shows a side of sophistication, yet makes the room appear larger. i have 2 in my bedroom, and it looks great
"Appropriateness" is definitely a personal question you'll have to figure out yourself.
It can be creepy or kinky depending who's making the judgement call.
