Painting walls and ceilings - it's got a bit messy!?
Question:I had painted my celing white first and then yesterday painted the walls, the colour that I used was a lot darker than colours used in the past and I have always been able to keep the wall/ceiling line straight but yesterday I got quite a bit of paint on the ceiling - what is the best way to remove it? Or do I just paint over it in white? Will white paint cover up the darker colour?
Answers:
just paint over it. use a smaller brush. the white should cover it, but it may take a few coats. for future reference, while painting walls, if you get some on the ceiling use a baby wipe to clean it off when you do it. they are also good for cleaning emulsion off gloss.
Just go over it - it might take a couple or more coats but it will cover it
wel the best way to have done it is to have masked the ceiling whilst panting the wall, however bla bla bla ok?
you might need two or three coats but yes it will cover it
Use a white primer first (flat finish) over the darker paint, then let that dry and repaint with your ceiling paint. I wouldn't use tape on the walls just yet, as the wall paint will not have "cured" sufficiently. You might pull the wall paint off when you removed the tape. Just try to be careful, and use a smaller, angled brush to "cut in" the paint.
If you have some primer ( Kilz ) put that on the spot first and then paint the white over it!
you could try scraping it of and then painting over it, but i would probably just paint over it (depending how dark it is you may need more than 1 layer)
go over again with white using a small brush
you might have to apply 2-3 coats incase the wall colour is too dark
also whilst you are painting and if you touch another place, then wipe it straight away - while it is wet - all dulux paints (if u are using dulux) are 'wipe clean'
good luck
Should have used some mastic but just do a couple of layers of white across the wall again otherwise it will look odd.

some handy tips for you!!
Just sand the overflow lightly to remove paint and paint over it. Since white is an opaque color it will be OK with a few coats.
keep touching it up till its coverd
Allow the walls to dry real well.leave until the weekend. Then, mask , use a low-tack masking tape your walls, and re-paint the ceiling edges. Maybe a couple brush coats should do.
Dont try and remove the darker colour. You might damage the plaster. Get some good masking tape. put it to the line ,carefully, where ceiling and wall meet. next put 2/3 coats of white, { i presume we are talking emulsion, not paint. }, over the darker colour. Allow to dry {fully } then carefully remove masking tape. If that was applied properly, you will have a lovely straight colour division between walls and ceiling. Failing that ,call in a decorator.
