Try the burgandy that is in your curtains. Find a really precise match, or it will look a little off. The contrast with the white would be great.
You can either stay away from other red or dark shades and paint something in soft yellow neutrals (think ivory or cream), or you can go dramatic, match the burgundy shade in your curtains . It would contrast well with your white furniture. I would probably go lighter.
I would go with off white to match the furniture and decorate with burgundy and gold to trow in all the colors.
I would go with taupe. It's a warm colour and with the off-white/burgundy/gold, it would make a really cozy atmosphere. Stay away from a taupe that is too dark, you want a neutral/warm tone.
A dark sage green. The furniture will really pop against the darker hue.
I liked a technique I saw on a TV show. In your case I would choose a milk chocolate and caramel color. They marked strips on the wall with painters tape. Each column is about a foot wide and span the entire length of the wall ( UP AND DOWN). so basically would look like stripes but with the painters tape THE LINES ARE SO CLEAN CUT, makes it look oh so expensive. I love Rich browns with gold , burgandy and creme. If you think ROMANTIC those are the colors that would come to mind. I dont know if the drapes and furniture that you are refering to is in your living or dining area.
I dont think I would repeat the same striped pattern in the other room. Are the rooms open to eachother, or seperated.
there are many kinds of paint that give excellent finishes, Raph Lauren has a paint that looks like SUEDE when its dried. Even DENIM. Sponging is another way to intoduce color if you are uneasy about making a big color change.
You basically start with a white or off white wall. Get some goldish tinted glaze and thin it with some water. applying it with a cloth bu blotting almost gives it a marbled texture. and if the golden hue is not enough you can always add more blotting until the desired effect is achieved.
If the wall striping was done in the living area. I believe if you had a darker colored wood dining set. I would stick with the deep reds for that area. To bring the curtians in from the other space to make it flow as one.
I moved into this house where the artist had white furniture- his walls were, and still are burgandy with white wood trim around the doors. My curtain is a shimmering burgandy and gold- depends on how you look at it- it is very stunning. Purchase a couple glass vases for a book shelf and put a small light over them to illuminate the contrasting colors- mine are awesome.
I would do a half wall (the bottom portion) a burgundy texture. then have a chair rail in white and the top half a creamy vanilla.
Mmm, this can be a little difficult being that you are using bugundy/gold drapes. Consider a light tan color. See link below.
