Stud finders?
Question:how do these finders exactly find the studs? is it with a laser or with echo? how??

electronic stud finders use ultrasound to detect differences in density. more density = stud. btw, the zircon sutd finders they sell at home depot aren't worth taking home free
It finds the studs but not the kind you are thinking of lol!
It locates the nails in the stud boards in the wall and works quite well.
I have found that by tapping on the wall or ceiling I get a different sound where there is a stud . Deeper sound between them and then where the stud is a firmer slightly higher sound within about a 2 in space. Most studs are 16 in. dead center from the corner along a wall and to check which way the ceiling joist run I look at the basement and see what is the bearing wall or supports are running and which way the floor joists are running and they should run that same way in the upper rooms
Not sure. Doesn't work on men either.
