If you are short on space, start by cleaning out everything first. Get rid of everything that you don't want to be back in the room. Clothes that don't fit anymore too:) You can either give all the extra stuff to Goodwill, or have a yardsale and use the $$$ to help with your new room.
I would start by picking a color you like first, then work around it. Paint first, then add your bedding and other accessories that you like. Or make it a theme room, and you'll have fun looking for things that will match:) Put up a lot of shelves~they will give you a lot more room! You can load them down with books, knick-knacks, and all of your "treasures".
If you want your room to look bigger, try painting the top part of the walls a different color than the bottom, and put a wallpaper border thru the middle of the two. Paint your ceiling before painting anything else, and make sure it's a bright white. That will make your room look taller.
Try shopping eBay for great prices on bedding sets, and you can find great accessories (And furniture) at yard sales, flea markets and second hand shops.
Good Luck!! ~~And have fun with it!!
try a relaxing room:
walls=beige
bed=white blankets and stuff
windows=blinds made out of material
put candles around the room
i agree w/ cleaning up any clutter lst & organizing it in baskets /bins etc... If u have furniture that u could stack on top of ea. other that would help. Like a book case on top of a dresser or desk.
Store stuff in cube baskets/bins in u'r closet if u can.. top shelf or on the bttm for u'r shoes/etc.
If u can paint... paint a color so far up til 3/4 of the way & leave the rest white or lt color. It will give the illusion of a tall room. If u'r aiming to get it an illusion of widith... then u can paint stripes in a horiz around the room & 3/4 way up so that would make it appear taller & wider.
Try to stay away from dark colors on the walls or furniture... b/c that will appear smaller unless u do the walls a bright or light color then u have dark furniture but the lighter everythng is... the bigger it makes the room appear. If can paint u'r furniture, do so... to white/off white/creme..silver.. whatever u'r theme would b.
u can do this... but start w/ cleanin up... take 2 bins & one for junk to get rid of & 1 to keep. And go from there. then get the bins/baskets & start organizing those items.
to make a small room feel or look bigger is to get rid of all clutter, painting a oppoising wall a deep color and the others like a gray or coco color, use a loft bed with desk underneth it save on space. move your furnture around.
u know how miorrs make a room look bigger? well heres the teen version: a bunch of blank cds, u can buy the ones that u get to burn on your computer, all strung together on the roof or the door or a wall shiny side showing. maybe even a room divider or unusual creative curtains
