When painting a wall how do you keep the paint from bleeding on to celling?

Question:I applied tape and when I finished the paint had sepped in the texture on celling!!

Answers:
I find it takes more time and effort to tape than it does to use a slow and steady hand while cutting in. Plus, tape won't work for beans with a textured ceiling, as you found out. There are some pad applicators that can make the job faster, but you have to be careful to keep the edge clean of paint or you will leave a streak. So, from my experience, cut in with a good quality brush, wipe away mistakes as best you can, then touch up as needed.

This will happen - you need to take a damp rag and wipe off the paint that bled. If you wait too long and the paint dries you will need to apply some touch ups on the ceiling with a small brush.
use tape...there is a blue colored tape specifically for painting try home depot
Make sure to tape off the ceiling area with painters tape. Then paint, wait til it is dry before taking the tape down.

instead of going all the way up the wall with a roller use a paint brush to cut the corner between the ceiling and wall. take the tape off and stick the very end of the brush in that corner and stroke downward.
It can help to not try to go all the way up when you have a textured ceiling. It is almost impossible to cut in.Leave a quarter inch white, if walls were same color as ceiling.
I'm painting at this time and have ran into the same problem with a textured ceiling. I found that with tape if you don't make sure it is firmly stuck, paint will leak underneath tape. If the ceiling is freshly painted you can go back with a small artist brush and touch up but if the ceiling has not been painted in a while, my suggestions is to tape walls, making sure it is firmly stuck, and paint ceiling. If you try and touch up a ceiling that has not been painted for a while, your paint won't match and it will look awful. You will have white spots all around room, I did. That's the only way I know to make it look professional. Good luck.
