How long Should the paint dry?
Question:I've just painted a bedroom that was a dark blue on the bottom and a light blue on the top. The colour of the paint is a burnt umber/rust orange. I've just painted the second coat, but it obviously needs a third to cover the dark blue section. How long does the paint need to dry before I can paint the third coat?
Answers:
Usually you can start to paint again within a few hrs. Paint these days dries rather quickly, especially in good ventilated areas. To save on using so much color paint... might I suggest first painting with a primer/blocker like KILZ... then you wouldn't have to paint the room so many times. If you have already painted twice and the color is still bleeding through, then you may need to use the KILTZ to seal out the dark color.
usually given the paint tips in stores it should be around two to four hours you can check and see if it is dry to the touch then you can apply the third coat
It will say on the back of the can. TYpically it dries to the touch in about two hours and will dry for putting on another coat by the next day.
lst off a tip for u in the future of painting over dark color paint. PRIME. U can use Kilz or Zinseer... which would had cut u'r paint layers down. U can get it tinted to the color u WILL use then paint.
as far as the drying time. depending on where u r at... if u r having lots of humidity... it will take time... u want it not tacky to touch. So use fans... i use them even tho' we don't have mch humidity here. IF u don't have mch humidity. then it should b good to go in about a few hrs... FANS... & vinegar bowl to help w/ the smell of the paint fumes. Even windows open if u can.
At least 12 hours the longer it dries then it soaks in and you will be able to tell how many coats it will need
