Does marble crack when heated?
Question:We have a pricey baker's rack with what I thought was a marble slab as the surface. I had my coffee pot located there for awhile, and while cleaning beneath it recently, I noticed the "marble" was slightly warped and had a good-sized crack ... from the heat, I guess.
I'm assuming that REAL marble would not do this and that I have some sort of synthetic material here. Am I right? I'm really bummed out because I love this baker's rack and now I have ruined it.
Answers:
Yeah.your right. Real marble doesn't warp. But not to worry too much. Most cabinet makers can make you a new 'corian' top for not too much money and, if you really want marble some of these guys/companys can do that too. Just save your warped top for them to use as a template.
<>While real marble will crack from heat (usually fairly high temps, though), I've never heard of it "warping." I tend to think you are right.that is not real marble.
well--I dunno about marble stone---but I do know that glass marbles will crack when you heat them up in a frying pan
Real marble or natural stone should not warp. It is a rock. Although it is suceptible to cracking. Heat should not do that but I can say that it is possible depending on the type of marble or the thickness of it. It may be synthetic or some type of terrazzo. They are made with acrylics and they can melt with high temperatures.
