General question about carpet installation?
Question:In general, do professional carpet installers clean the floor beneath the old carpet before replacing it? If not, are they willing to wait while the owner does so?
I know it may vary from company to company, but we have not hired anybody yet and I'm just wondering what to expect and what others have experienced. I have no idea what the floor's condition is like but I'm not anticipating that it would need anything more than a good sweeping and mopping (which would need time to dry of course). Thanks...

Pulling out the existing carpet is REALLY easy.. you could do this before the installers show up to install the carpet, then you would have time to clean to your satisfaction... They will still take the old carpet if you have removed it yourself.. but you might want to inform them of your plans.
Only thing you would have a question on is whether or not you are goin to leave the existing tack strips along the walls.. if they are in good shape.. they installers probably would not have replaced them except where they needed to be.
you will save yourself a couple hundred dollars if you rip out the old carpeting yourself. This will also give you time to inspect the subfloor for pet stains which you will want to treat with a wood bleach to remove the stain and odor.
My brother installs carpet and I know that he does sweep the floor really well before he does any installing of new carpet.
Removing the carpet is easy, just take a utility knife and cut the carpet into strips about 3' wide. This will be easier than trying to remove the carpet as one whole piece.
