What is a modern color to paint a living room?

Question:I have all black accessories (fish tank, TV stand, end tables, picture frames etc) and a bourbur cream-mix carpet. I was thinking a mocha light brown, that's what I see a lot of on TV.what do you think? PS-It's a tall room (10 ft ceilings) with 4 floor length windows, so a lot of light and has crown molding which I figured I would paint white. My current color is white.

I think you would really love to use the online paint color visualizers available...you can upload photos of your room, as it is now, with the furniture and everything, and 'try on' the colors. Go to the link below for the list of sites...Have fun!

mocha light brown sounds pretty good. try going to Home Depot or Lowe's or a paint shop and getting one of their sample booklet things with a whole bunch of colors . . . hope this helps :-)
if you want to do something fairly modern you can do a choclate brown and then if you want to make it feel more modern you can add an accent wall in a bright contrasting color like a light blue or pink for the curtains on in a pillow etc...
Your idea of mocha or taupe is excellent but be careful with the white ceiling. I would paint it an off white, or cream white. It is softer and the ceiling won't be as much of a focal point as it would if you use stark pure white
