What exactly is Micro Fiber Leather?

We have microfiber and leather. With kids and cats, I love the microfiber for its durability and stain resistance. It's very easy to clean and everything so far has come off (markers, cat puke, coffee, etc.). Cat hair is fairly easy to come off (obviously not as easy as leather).
The leather looks great but I always cringe when a cat or kid is near it. Scratch marks are easy to make and quite evident (part of the patina I suppose). Obviously the grade/type of leather is a factor in this. Having grown up with a leather couch/chair set that my mom still has (a testament to the durability of leather), I personally don't like sitting on leather when it's too hot or too cold. DH doesn't seem to mind.
I dont believe there is such, its either micro fiber or its leather, but if there is, im curious to know .. I prefer leather with children its durable easy to clean and always looks nice..
Micro Fiber Leather? Micro Fiber and leather are 2 diiferent materials. Leather is made from cow hide while micro fiber is made from well really small fiber. The latest thing for waashing and drying say cars is to use micro fiber because it is so soft. Aloha, micky9fingers

As for the durability, I disagree with the previous answer, They design a special microfiber for furniture. Here is another excerpt: "Microfibers used in table cloths, furniture, and car interiors are designed to repel liquids and consequently are difficult to stain. Microfiber table cloths will bead liquids until they are removed, they are often advertised showing red wine on a white table cloth that wipes clean with a paper towel".
googling microfiber leather received many hits, including several others with family and pets. most definitely durable (and easy to clean)
I thought it was a version of suede which is from leather correct? Not that it helps you... I am also considering a microfiber sofa for our family with one toddler. See if you can get it Dupont coated or Scotchguarded before you bring it home that will help with stains etc. I am not sure how easy pet hair would be to remove from it though. You could always get a washable slip cover too.
