1. lining up patterns can be difficult to do especially for a first timer...
2. wall paper can have bubbles in it which are hard to remove...
3. humid areas can cause the paper to peel
4. its most often not a one person job...
5. when re-selling your house people might not want to buy it if there is alot of wall paper because the work involved taking it down is a pain in the butt
the up side to some wall paper
they offer textured wall papers that you can paint over for example i have seen them used to look like a tin cealing or fine plater work so it can do things that paint cant really do...
so I say go with paint
Painting is easier to re-paint over. With wallpaper you have to peel it off and thats a pain in the ****... There is chemicals that help ya, but still a pain.
Although they now manufacture wallpaper for wet area, as in semi-gloss or glossy paint for the same areas; I trust paint more. It is easier to work with as long as you mask well, and there is no sticky mess or bubbling. It is also always more difficult to remove wallpaper, although they now manufacture solutions.
Yet, wallpaper designs are gorgeous and can make a dramatic impact.
You must consider where you are painting or wallpapering and the weather conditions in the area, before deciding so that you can make an easier selection. Humid areas will need more maintenance over years if wallpapered. If you have children etc... it is easier to touch up paint when scratched or bumped into. Also if you have cats or dogs, they may have easier time scratching the wallpaper off than damaging the painted surface.
the only problem with wall paper is that you can't paint over it when you are tired of looking at the wall :)
