Trouble removing wood finish?
Question:I've been trying to restore an old hutch, and it had some type of heavy varnish or polyurethane on it over the stain. I've been using ZipStrip, which is taking most of it off, but now I'm getting a "waxy" residue. I've gone back over the same sections 7, 8 times. I've tried denatured alcohol, bleach, sanding, steel wool - nothing seems to work. Anyone with any ideas would be of so much help . thank you!

If you have most of the stuff off with chemicals, start sanding. go to a big enough grit to get it down to the wood, then you will have to use finer and finer grit to smooth. But if you are going to restain it anyway, you don't want to sand it any smoother than 150 grit. So it will still take a stain ok.
Wipe off any excess zip strip with warm water and a well wrung out rag, you will probably have to use a vibrating sander if you have one and sand with 220 grit sand paper, this should get you down to the bare wood and ready to apply your new finish..
Take it outside and use methanol you'll have to look for it cuz druggies use it to make drugs.
