Whats in for designs on blankets, aprons, tablecloths...etc.?
Question:I've been told metallic, buuuut, if I like to sew gifts and whatnot, what would you be looking for in these items... thanks a lot.
Answers:
Black and white, earth tones (greens, browns), retro. If you can look in some high-end shops (even online) like Horchow, Neiman-Marcus, etc., that carry these items you can get a good idea of the current trends before they make their way to "everybody" via Target, Walmart, Linens 'n Things and stores like that.
Classics are always in, as are neutrals. It really depends on the person you are making the gift for. If someone has a very traditional clean lines kitchen or room, you want it to compliment their style. Most of what I've seen lately is simple elegance.
Metallic for tablecloths aprons and blankets!
No way not unless the gift receipent is seriously into the hitech minimalist look?
However a quilt or bedcover that has small areas with a metallic gold silver copper look on a dark background could work ?
Also by metallic do you mean satin or brocade or what or gold and silver threads?
If we're talking metallic thread for embroidery thats also different ? Couching applied carefully can emphasize an outline or cover stains!
Just make sure if you can that the metallic sheen or color matchs the background or is a balanced contrast and if you know who its going to will it fit into their current decor?
If you're doing this for a crafts fair remember taste or lack thereof in your area may differ from what magazines are telling you?
solids are in. the lady bugs, ducks etc.. of the 70's and 80's are out. Most people are using solid browns and earth tones.
