Where to find mirror touch up paint?

Question:I am redoing a bathroom mirror and it has several spots on the back where the paint has come off. Have checked with all the local home improvements and craft stores and they do not have it!!

Answers:
It's not recommended to resilver a portion or small spot on a mirror. The whole thing needs to be redone -- and it's not cheap. So depending on the mirror's value (if it's an antique, for example) it might be worth it. But if it's just an everyday mirror that didn't cost very much, it might make more sense to just replace the whole thing.

I imagine that when you say the "paint" has come off the back, you are refering to what is known as the "silvering" on the back of the mirror? "Silvering" is what gives the mirror it's reflective face. Often, and usually on antique mirrors, this can disintegrate over time. If you have had no luck at home reno. or craft stores, you may want to check out a shop that cuts and sells a variety of glass and mirror products. ( Look in the yellow pages. They may also do auto glass replacement ) They may or may not sell it, but perhaps they could tell you where you can find it. Also, there are shops that do mirror re- silvering, so if your mirror is valuable you may consider having this done for you. If it's not, it may cost more than buying new would..
