Has anyone had a walk-in bathtub/shower unit installed?
Question:We have an old fashioned footed tub and need to replace it with a walk-in tub (family member is very ill and needs easy access).
All the research we've done has not resulted in any general cost estimates for the tubs themselves or for installation. I realize every job is different, but some basic prices would help us decide if we can afford to pursue this option.

We have just had a walk-in tub installed. We did a lot of research on the tubs and found that they usually run anywhere from $2000 and up, depending on the companies and what extras you want - they can be very pricey. We got ours from Best-Bath because they offered a discount for disabled Veterans. They are located in Idaho. All the people we contacted at the company were extremely nice and very helpful.
I do not know about installation price we were going through a remodel with a contractor who hired a plumber to install the tub along with all the sinks and toilets.
We love the tub. It has a hand held shower, so you can sit and shower off in safety.
Yes, they leak all the time, one of those daft invetions
Recently I researched this at the Library. In a recent Consumer Reports magazine, your questions are answered. I found the article heading on the cover by just browsing through. The report is very comprehensive. Good Luck!
Call 2 or 3 of the businesses who do that type of work and ask for a job estimate. They can look at your situation and tell you their best options and prices. Don't sign on the dotted line until you are sure you have the best price for you.
