No door between bedroom and living room, but don't want door - what should I put in the doorway instead?
Question:Over the summer I'm staying at a summer house where there are no doors between my room and the living room. I want my room to be some what less-open, but at the same time I don't want to put in a door or thick curtains. How should I keep the openness of my room, but at the same time have privacy?
Answers:
You could put one of those free-standing room dividers either inside or outside of your bedroom. Or you could position a very tall and/or wide plant either right inside or outside your bedroom. Or how about beads or curtain that is pulled to the side?
beads man, groovy beads.
try a divider you can fold back in the day time
Go with the first answer - Beads. Pretend you're a hippie.
Sheers, or I've even seen horizontal and even vertical blinds being used as well, beads are always a cool thing as well, have fun.
Beads, a thin curtain maybe sheer/transparent, one of the ols west saloon bat wing doors
Besides tall plants and beads, how about a decorative or nice room divider screen?
How about a free-standing 5 or 6 foot tall bookcase and set it 3 feet into the living room so that it forms a divider in front of the doorway? It could be closed in a little more if you have 2 bookcases forming an 'L'.
Hang curtains and tie them back...that way you can let the curtains hang completely (for privacy) or you can tie them back to the door frame or wall for an open feeling.
