Things to know about paint?

Question:I have a job interview for working in the paint department at a home improvement store. what are the basic things i need to know about paint and all off its accessories??

Answers:
I worked in HR at a home improvement store. If you don't know a lot about paint, emphasize your experience giving great customer service instead. Managers in hiring positions are looking for people with customer service skills first and product knowledge second. They can always train someone how to sell paint, but you can't train someone how to have people skills. If you need to learn more about paint, read the labels on products and read brochures by paint companies. Quite often, they tell you everything you need to know.

Another way to learn is by painting something yourself. A wall, a piece of furniture, etc. Hiring managers and customers alike want to hear about your own personal experiences with painting. People like to hear "When I painted my living room, I learned this..." or "this worked best for me..."

In your interview, emphasize that you will do whatever it takes to make a customer happy, and that you will use all resources to find the answers to their questions. Hope this helps!

Dont get it on your clothes, floor/carpet, dog, cat, bird, fish, car, radio, computer, photos, clock, spaghetti, zipper, or that fat guy that lives down the street from you(you know who im talking about)
I work at Sherwin Williams and believe me It is super hard to know all the products and application methods. What I did for my interview was talk about good color coordination. Because the main part in the paint industry is color and if you know how to put colors together than your gold.

In Exterior and Interior paint there are different sheen's which are really easy to learn. application is spray, rolling, and brushing. It really is simple. I have been working in the paint industry for two years and still don't know every thing there is to know but when you don't know something just ask usually the customer does not mind if you ask someone else they just want the best product they need for their project
