When using a wood stain outside, do I stain, wait, then use a weather sealer or something like that?

Question:Any good brands to reconmend for us, live in eastern Michigan so get all sorts of weather...rain, snow, cold, hot, etc

Follow the instructions on the tin. but I would WAIT before following it up with the sealer...
